Lincoln Mystery Plays (Lincoln Cathedral)

An engaging and illuminating Medieval tradition, performed in Lincoln Cathedral, that tells 'the greatest story ever told' from Creation to Doomsday.

The Mystery Plays have their origin in the 10th century and the Lincoln version has become a significant part of the religious and communal culture of the county.

Performed in the Cathedral, Lincoln Mystery Plays tells the story of the Bible in a unique way first devised to help teach the illiterate masses and reinforce faith. Though they are more than just a religious story but a commentary on the difficulties, pain, sorrow, strengths, and weaknesses of human existence.

All this with a unique addition of comedy and music, and performed in the iconic Lincoln Cathedral, make the Mystery Plays a must-see event.

The plays have been performed regularly in Lincoln - every four years since 1969 - and have become an important part of the culture of the city.
