The origins of the word 'quilt' stems from 'stuffed sack' as for many centuries people have been padding textiles to create bedding, clothing etc. Today, 'quilt' generally means the art of stitching three layers together. We have been hoping to have a quilting presence in the shop, with an accent on simplicity of colour and a strong nod towards the American Shaker style. We're delighted therefore to have one handmade quilt now in stock (and displayed in the window). It is approx 100m x 140m so will sit on the back of a settee, be used as a throw or on a single bed. The photo illustrates that it will sit below the pillows. Alternatively, you could use this on a double bed to add colour or fold it across the end. Expertly handmade by Jacqui (a specialist quilter) in Lincolnshire, this quilt has been made by hand and sewing machine. It is washable, and will come with its own care sheet. It is truly unique and is intended to be enjoyed for many, many years, and passed on or indeed given as a special gift. £215. Please feel welcome to pop in for a closer look.
